Maths Word Problems: Beginners – Part 2
Learn step-by-step procedures for solving Maths Word Problems related to Integers, Indices, Fractions, Ratios, Percentages, Algebra, Measurement and Probability.
Course Introduction:
Word problems are a type of textbook Maths problems that are designed to help students apply abstract mathematical concepts to “real-world” situations. Success in solving word problems depends on a student’s knowledge of language and structure, ability to interpret vocabulary in mathematical terms, and of course, actual mathematical knowledge and ability.
Solving word problems is known to have superior cognitive benefits, owing to which they are generally a part of most Maths academic curriculums for school students. Word problems appear regularly in Maths tests as they integrate a number of Maths concepts in the same problem and test a student’s fundamental understanding of the concepts. These questions are considered challenging by most school going kids as there is also a large amount of ‘language’ that students must attend to in order to understand and solve these problems.
The aim of this course is to help students deal with the trouble of linking their basic mathematical knowledge and correctly understanding the questions, to solve word problems. The author explains the approach to each question in the course in a systematical step by step manner, thus making it super easy to imbibe the techniques needed to attack Word problems. You will specifically learn how to convert English words into basic Mathematical equations so as to solve them. The course covers most topics that come regularly in Maths exams in these grades, and are prone to having a lot of worded problems associated with them. Worksheets (with answers) have been added for each chapter to help you further test yourself and implement your learnings from the lectures.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, you will gain an in-depth knowledge of:
- Integers
- Indices
- Ratios
- Fractions
- Percentages
- Algebra
- Measurement
- Linear Equations
- Probability
Pre-requisites and Target Audience:
This course is mainly targeted towards 7th and 8th standard students who have a basic idea of what Word Problems are and how to solve them. If you are completely new to this concept, we suggest you enrol in Maths Word problems – Beginners Part One before taking this course, as we’ll be essentially building on a lot of the basic concepts covered in Part 1.
